Level One builds the Greek Alphabet & Pronunciation foundation in about 30 videos, with English support and Modern Greek pronunciation. Beginners should start by Video 5 at the latest, and the numbered lessons should be followed step by step without skipping. After Level One, Level Two will continue from about Video 31 into the next stage of Koine Greek learning, supported by the complete New Testament Greek Vocabulary & Reference.

ምንድን ነው?

GTM Biblical Greek is an educational project for learning Koine Greek—the form of Greek used in the New Testament and widely represented in early Christian literature.

The present phase is GTM Biblical Greek Level One: Greek Alphabet & Pronunciation. Level One is planned for about 30 numbered videos. The first 24 Level One lessons are arranged in nine subject playlists: Introduction; Alphabet; Alphabet Songs; Diphthongs & Digraphs; Diaeresis & Iota Subscript; Greek Accent Marks; Greek Breathing Marks; Greek Syllables; and Vocabulary. The master playlist currently gathers the available Level One lessons plus promotional videos, but it is not the total course count. Level Two is planned to continue from about Video 31 into morphology, grammar, syntax, and guided reading of the Greek New Testament and the Septuagint.

The primary teaching language is Amharic, with English support where it improves clarity. Modern Greek pronunciation is used as the normal pronunciation model.

This website describes both material already available and the planned direction of the project. It does not present unfinished modules as completed courses.

Level One objective

The purpose of Level One is to give beginners the alphabet and pronunciation foundation needed before grammar: letter names and forms, vowels and consonants, diphthongs and digraphs, diaeresis and iota subscript, accents, breathing marks, syllables, and basic vocabulary orientation. Complete beginners should begin no later than Video 5, where the alphabet sequence begins; if they want the full course orientation, they may start at Video 1. Do not skip the numbered lessons; each video prepares the next.

For EOTC learners, Koine Greek can be studied alongside Geʽez and Amharic as a complementary biblical and historical language. It provides direct access to the New Testament, the Septuagint, and a large body of early Christian literature.

Greek study can help illuminate vocabulary, translation choices, theological terminology, and the historical reception of biblical texts. GTM will treat connections between Greek and Geʽez sources carefully, distinguishing documented evidence from questions that remain debated among scholars.

The wider Oriental Orthodox family

The Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church belongs to the Oriental Orthodox communion together with the Coptic Orthodox Church, Syriac Orthodox Church, Armenian Apostolic Church, Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church, and Eritrean Orthodox Tewahedo Church. These churches share an ancient miaphysite Christian heritage while preserving their own languages, liturgies, and histories. Greek study can support engagement with shared early Christian sources without erasing those important differences.

No. Level One is still the current foundation and is planned for about 30 videos focused on the Greek Alphabet & Pronunciation. Videos 1–25 are public; Videos 26–28 are uploaded and scheduled. Level Two is planned to continue from about Video 31 into morphology, grammar, syntax, guided biblical reading, and text-analysis modules. The GTM Complete New Testament Greek Vocabulary & Reference is already available as the principal vocabulary/reference resource.

Modern Greek pronunciation is the normal model for letter names and spoken examples. Other historical pronunciation systems may be discussed for comparison when relevant.
